PRIVATE TRAINING With your convenience and goals in mind, CLAY makes available, National Academy of Sports Medicine certified, attentive trainers who will take you to a higher fitness level. Our trainers are available all hours of operation, to accommodate even the toughest schedules. Request private training information NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING Realizing that each person has a different metabolic rate and food sensitivity, our nutritional counselors listen to your concerns and help design for you a way of eating that supports your physical activity level and your desired weight. Request nutritional counseling information PILATES Developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, Pilates has continued to evolve to meet the demands of the body conscious. Pilates is a full body workout that focuses on core stability while improving balance, strength and flexibility. A certified Pilates instructor will guide you through customized routines that meet your personal needs. Semi-private instruction is also available with regularly scheduled Tower classes and Reformer/Mat classes. Pilates Mat classes are complimentary to all members. Request Pilates information GYROTONIC® The Gyrotonic Expansion System® works for anyone wishing to gain strength, flexibility and coordination. It is found in rehabilitation centers, dance studios, sports training and fitness facilities all over the world. The technique is based on movements derived from dance, yoga, tai chi and gymnastics. With resistance provided on all the movement planes, this private, total body workout is taught by certified instructors that will guide you through a challenging experience. Gyrokinesis® group classes, based on the Gyrotonic Expansion System®, are complimentary to all members. INTEGRATED FITNESS PACKAGES No two people are alike. What works for your best friend may not necessarily work for you. Creating a customized fitness program may be the key to your success. Your CLAY Program Advisor (CPA) will work with you to design a program that incorporates a variety of fitness modalities. You may have yet to discover effective practices that you will grow to love. As the coordinator of your personalized program, your CPA will work with each fitness professional that serves you - your cycling instructor, Private Trainer, Pilates Instructor, etc. - to ensure that they are all guiding you in the right direction: the direction that you want to go. Your CPA will meet with your respective trainers to implement a strategy to meet your goals, track your progress, and eventually, provide a follow up to your program with a post-program evaluation. Common pains, such as lower back pain, regardless of age or circumstances, almost always involves two things: Observable skeletal misalignment and muscular weakness. The Egoscue Method works to strengthen key muscles, using them to restore and maintain alignment. The Postural Alignment Specialist strives for the following: - Identify anatomical dysfunction and limitations. - Restore and maintain the body's full range of motion. - Develop optimum levels of physical and mental wellness. - Promote well being through functional physical fitness and proper nutrition. - Enhance performance of professional and recreational athletes. - Provide method for overcoming physical limitations. How the Analysis is used: 1) View the body by taking a "physical" X-Ray in the form of photos. 2) Compare the body to the template of an "ideally" functional body, which should have vertical and horizontal alignment of all load-bearing joints. 3) Notice the discrepancy between this template and the photos. 4) Correct the musculature by strengthening and stretching in appropriate places and using gravity to settle the body into place. This is done by devising a specific menu to work on the individual's needs. 5) The choice of the exercises is as important as the order in which you place them. 6) Exercises are to be performed daily. Menus are updated weekly or every two weeks, depending on progression. When the body is functional, new programs are used to maintain function. The program is taught by Lucas Peltonen, Postural Alignment Specialist trained in the Egoscue Method, in conjunction with the Egoscue Method Clinic in San Diego, CA. 6-8 WEEK MASTERY PROGRAMS Enhance your fitness routine with the mastery of an extended fitness measure. Choose from our list of concentrated, 6-8 week programs which inlude meditation, self-defense, sports-specific training, running clinics and our whole body integration program. SELF DEFENSE THROUGH SELF DISCOVERY Maya Wilson, self defense expert, will teach you proper skills and useful strategies. Self Defense comes from the inside. Through guided meditation, writing exercises, and learning simple but devastatingly effective physical techniques, you will explore your inner fears and find your hidden strengths. Learn to block, strike, kick, escape grabs and counter almost any assault. The class will explore habitual movement patterns in everyday activities. Learn to apply the principles to specific exercises, discovering how to increase strength and flexibility without interfering with a balanced, integrated body. Since moving to New York in 1993, she has worked and toured with numerous choreographers and modern dance companies. She has taught movement classes to students of all ages and at various locations in the NYC area.
